Kurt R. Schesser, Ph.D.

Dr. Schesser’s laboratory is directed towards identifying and characterizing host factors that play a role in the infection cycle of intracellular microbial pathogens. Most recently the lab’s focus has been on the host factors heme regulated inhibitor (HRI) and perforin-2 (P2), whose infection-specific activities were discovered in the Schesser and Podack labs, respectively. Additionally, Dr. Schesser co-directs (with departmental colleague Dr. Arba Ager) the malarial drug testing program.
